Saint Mary Magdalene – The apostle to the apostles

Saint Mary Magdelene is the once chosen by God to witness the resurrection of our Lord in the first place. This radiates the Grace and Mercy of our Lord. Mary was present with Jesus during His public ministry. Her name is mentioned a dozen time in the Gospels.

Mary Magdalene is often considered as a prostitute or a sexually immoral person. But there is not clear evidence for this claim in the bible. But its true that Mary Magdalene was a great sinner, from whom Jesus has cast out seven demons.

Except for the mother of Jesus, few women are more honored in the Bible than Mary Magdalene. Yet she could well be the patron of the slandered, since there has been a persistent legend in the Church that she is the unnamed sinful woman who anointed the feet of Jesus in Luke 7:36-50.

Recognizing Saint Mary Magdalene’s role as the first to witness Christ’s resurrection and as a “true and authentic evangelizer,” Pope Francis raised the July 22 memorial of St. Mary Magdalene to a feast on the church’s liturgical calendar, the Vatican announced.
